Purpose of the Event
The name derives from the famous phrase “Crossing the Rubicon”; which basically refers to a monumental change or reaching a point of no return.
Turning 21 is an irreversible step and a life-changing experience, a new life of adulthood with a higher level of independence and responsibility. It is a “once in a lifetime occasion” that calls for a sensible and decent celebration, without having to break the bank.
The aim of the Rubicon is to host an affordable, accessible and equitable celebration, while adding more value and prestige to the occasion at a low cost, drama and stress of organizing such an event. The ticket packages were set with the following points in mind;
- To host a low to medium size 21st Anniversary Party at home can cost anything between R20 000 and R35 000, for a very basic occasion with a common event program, having a very average or even minimal value and impact on the Celebrant
- Some anniversary parties go up to R100 000 or more, with the type and size of the party determined by the Celebrant’s fancy, based on the family’s financial strength.
- The group celebration helps to spread and share the costs amongst the Celebrants, making the occasion more affordable and accessible to many, particularly for the less privileged families.
- The primary purpose of the event is to motivate and empower the youth, give them a new sense of hope, confidence and direction in life, with a view to creating a new generation of change agents, go-getters and the productive members of society
